Blackpink is one of the most popular girl bands, not only in Korea but all over the globe. They have sold over 50,000 physical albums, marking them as the second best-selling Korean girl group of 2018. Just a couple months ago, Blackpink had one of their largest global tours, titled Blackpink “In Your Area”.

According to their Instagram posts, the tour was overall a successful event. Rose, one of the four members of the band, was quoted saying, “So so so excited … and overwhelmed that we get to perform at all these beautiful places!”

Blackpink performed at Hong Kong on January 26th at AsiaWorld-Expo Arena. Events organiser Live Nations was proud to bring Blackpink to Hong Kong for the first time. They performed their most popular song: Ddu du ddu du, as well as an individual track by Jennie, titled Solo, and several of their older pieces. Seating tickets were sold from $698 to $1398 Hong Kong dollars, depending on the seating arrangement and proximity to the stage. Their signature Blackpink torch, one of their own products, became one of the bestselling K-pop products in Hong Kong.

Blackpink is one of the most popular and well-known groups of Korea: 59% of Koreans voted them as “best girl group” and their YouTube Channel holds a proud 20 million subscribers. The group are so popular that they actually have their own abbreviated term for their fans, called the “Blinks”.

There are four members of the band: Lisa, Jisoo, Rose, and Jennie. One of the factors that allows them to stand out amidst other K-pop bands is their diversity and fluency in a wide range of languages. Lisa is able to communicate in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. Chaeyoung, known on the stage as Rosé, was born in New Zealand, but raised in Australia; she is able to speak English, Japanese, and basic Chinese. Jennie was born in Korea, however, she received English training after moving to New Zealand. The last member is Jisoo, the oldest of them all,  speaks fluent Korean, and according to an interview done with the other girls, is able to speak and understand English but is embarrassed to do so in public.

Two of the band members love pets. Jennie has two dogs, one named Kuma and one named Kai. Jisoo also has a dog, named Dalgom.

In conclusion, Blackpink, arguably one of the hottest girl bands word-wide, had a very successful concert in Hong Kong, and fans hope to see them again soon!
