Dwindling Image of Anyone You'll Ever Meet

By Sylvia Tong

Lately, I feel the fingerprints you lay on my mind smudge away

The ink seems to evaporate quicker with each passing day

You’re sinking, fading into the blue abyss of memories far away

Like stones of old, sedimentary

Sedimentary, beautiful.

Sedimentary, forgotten.

New events eclipse over your face gently

Softly, the tides wash away your voice.

It's unfortunate to declare

That the figure of you isn’t quite as sharp as before

But one night I will stare at the empty ceiling

And the memories will buzz to life on the canvas.

Misty as ever, recalling bygone days,

People, People wandering in different directions I won’t ever get to see.

People passing by in my life.

I will smile for us all.
