Flying into Secondary 🚀
Imagine the feeling of starting at a new school. Imagine being scared. Imagine starting middle school!

Secondary school is really different from primary school. New schedules, new faces, and new rules… holy! It’s a lot to take in. As a year 6 student, I have different feelings about flying into secondary school — other students do too.
“I have this very weird feeling. Kind of like nervousness. But I know I can do it,” stated Year 6 student Andrew Chan.
A common fear factor for Year 6 students are the older kids. Bullying is something we fear the most. Other students are much taller and bigger than us. It is frightening how they talk and how loud their voices can be. Just looking at them can give some Year 6’s a fright. However, after finishing transition week, I realized that they are not that bad.=
RCHK Secondary school is a new place for many students. A lot of people fear getting lost between lessons and climbing up all those stairs. The layout of the school is very different. You don’t have one main classroom, your classrooms are placed in different parts of the school.
Starting secondary means that there will be many new teachers. “It feels good to see new faces and talents [in the hubs],” said secondary teacher Sarah Lewis.
But how about the teachers we are leaving behind? Mr Lee, a Year 6 teacher, explained: “Obviously it is sad [to see my class move on to secondary] because every year my class becomes like my family. It is like my family moving on, but I have to say I am very excited because you have got your whole life in front of you, and I am excited for you to make that next step in your journey. I know that you will do some fantastic, amazing and inspirational things in your life.”
Chaelin Sin, a Year 9 student, said, “Just enjoy your time. You guys got a bunch of time, unlike me. It is not a big difference between primary and secondary.”
You got this, Year 6!
