Bubble tea vogue

By Lorraine Ng

The taste of bubble tea is unique,

And the look is just chic

Rapid opening of stores galore

Attracts millions of customers or more.

With its spherical, chewy tapioca pearls

They are as bouncy as a ball.

The creative patterns that form in one

Make bubble tea look just as fun.

Green tea, milk tea, coming in

But can you add a twist?

Should we add pearls in it

To make the drink more rich?

But amid this rush for more,

The hazards lurk in silence, holding us at bay.

With suspicion forming and atrocious thoughts

Would people stop this craze?

‘Shake, shake’, sugar tipped on top

That’s what always scares people a lot.

‘Bounce, bounce’ tapioca pearls linger

As an unfamiliar carcinogenic slayer.

Bubble tea is a fancy drink,

But is it worth trying, after all?
